To all those who are wondering, I’m 19 years old and living in Malaysia, sharing an apartment with my sister and a couple of friends. (You may be thinking I ripped this off the synopsis of a sitcom but I really didn’t.) I’m currently majoring in Event Management under Hospitality and Tourism School at Taylor’s University. I’ve spent the better part of my last 5 years here in Malaysia, but rest assured, I’m Maldivian, born and raised. In case some of you don’t know where Maldives is, it’s a little archipelago found in the Indian Ocean. It’s arguably one of the hottest destinations for honeymooners; you might even call it an island paradise.
Before I started my life in university where I’m studying Event Management, I completed my IGCSE’s with a mix of science, business and arts subjects to really be sure of what I wanted to do in the future. After struggling to decide between Interior Design, Psychology and, well… almost everything else. (yes, medicine too, but that might have had something to do with the fact that I was super into the medical drama series Grey’s Anatomy.) I finally chose events after months of consideration. The reason behind my choice is that it included most of what I wanted to do in life – something that allowed me to get into my creative stride, enabled me to help others and, in addition, I have always wanted to do something with my life that challenged me constantly, the alternative resulting in me ultimately getting bored of my work. Moreover, events is a fast growing industry. I don’t think I need to give any of you guys an introduction on how events have become such an enormous part of our culture! (I’m looking at you, Tomorrowland fans.)
I decided to start blogging as a way to document my life as an events student, share my passion for all things creative and to just reflect on everything that I do and see my progress and achievements along the way. And of course, share my thoughts and important moments in my life with you!
Here, you will mostly come across all the events and projects that I work on. You will also see the occasional post that taps into my personal experience; I love making art, I have a strong attachment to travelling and taking photographs, I simply adore cooking (not to mention, baking), I’m infatuated with makeup/beauty, and so much more!
The events industry is vast. It brings together a breadth of different people striving to create sparks of interest, from suppliers to event organisers, who are the day-to-day logistical masterminds capable of seamlessly bringing together events for crowds of 50 through to 50,000. In addition to this, you have agencies that take everything under one roof, venues providing the home ground for all the different elements and creative designers bringing ideas to life. And to top it all off you have associations that continue to develop and enhance the industry, taking the reins after the academic learnings have ended.
I established my love for different types of events from social to corporate events, although my true passion is mostly for social events that are more on the creative side – weddings, baby showers, birthdays, anniversary parties, concerts, festivals and more.
My natural attention to detail has sharpened after I started studying and working for events. I want to gain experience in planning, consulting and coordinating such events and thoroughly understand what my clients want, to ensure each event truly reflects their personality and vision. From the invitation to linen sampling, selecting vendors, and turning magic into reality while creating friendships along the way!
My goals and hopes for the future are to become a successful event manager and someday, start my very own event company. I would also like to add that it has always been a huge dream of mine to host many charity events in support of countless important causes in the world today.
Thank you for stopping by, I hope you enjoy your time here and find yourself inspired!
